We currently have several bee hives. The worker bees take pollen and nectar from a wide range of flowers on site including ivy, various trees, himalayan balsam , phacelia, gorse and dandelion. We are members of Lancaster bee keepers association
and attended their course two years ago which was an excellent way to learn and extend our knowledge and to make contact with other beekeepers in the area. We have monthly meetings as well as sharing equipment such as a honey separator. This swarm on the right came to rest of one of our apple trees and so was easy to collect and put in a hive. 2008 and 2009 have both been very poor years for honey.
